Biography* Patrick M. Brennan, 1840-1915:
(includes excerpts from "The Brennans of Chatfield" by William E. Gallagher)
NOTE: Two sources disagree on Patrick's birthplace. It is listed as Castlewarren in William Gallagher's book; as Knockadeen in the Clara church parish baptismal record. Castlewarren is in Tiscoffin civil parish not Clara civil parish (there is only the one Castlewarren in County Kilkenny). There is no Knockadeen townland. One source for Ireland places lists Knockadeen as a place, not a town or townland, in Tiscoffin parish.

Patrick's christening sponsors were Thomas and Margaret Tobin. The family immigrated to the USA in 1852. Patrick came to Watertown, New York with his father and five siblings in 1852, and in 1855 moved west to Chatfield, Minnesota. In 1860 they were living in Chatfield township of Fillmore County, Minnesota. By 1870, Patrick had real estate worth $1,300 and a personal estate worth $650. He was still living in Chatfield township. His brother-in-law David Noonan was living with Patrick, his wife and their two children. In 1887, Patrick moved to Rock County, Minnesota and homesteaded a quarter section (160 acres) of land in Section 14 of Springwater township. Although the land was in Rock County, Minnesota, the mailing address was Garretson, South Dakota. By 1900, Patrick was a naturalized citizen of the United States. In 1904, Patrick Brennan bought a farm south of Oakes, North Dakota which he then sold or rented to his son Daniel in 1905. By 1910, Patrick and Margaret had sold the Springwater township farm to their son Martin. Patrick and Margaret then retired from farming and in 1912 and moved to Oakes, North Dakota where they lived with their son Daniel. Several of their other children lived in the area.

Patrick, 74, died on a Wednesday. The funeral was held in Saint Charles church, Oakes, North Dakota.
