Biography* John William Neiheisel, 1849-1924:
John's German born parents immigrated to the USA circa 1845 with three young children and settled in Hudson, Walworth County, Wisconsin. John the second child born in Wisconsin was christened Johann William and his name was recorded in his early years as William. By 1877, he was using the name John, John W. or J. W. In 1870, "William", a 19-year-old wagon maker, was lving with Prussian born wagon maker Joseph Peters and his Wisconsin born wife Catherine in Burlington, Racine County, Wisconsin. John moved to Minnesota circa 1871 and was married there to Bertha Becker in 1877 by Ph. von Rohr (Lutheran Minister) before witnesses Dietrich Bohn and Emma Becker (Bertha's sister?). In 1880, the family was living on 5th Street in Winona, Minesota's 1st ward. And by 1900 they were renting at 115 Sugarloaf in the 4th ward. John retired circa 1918 and by 1920 was renting at 768 West Braodway in the 1st ward. He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF).

John, 74, died at his home on a Thursday. Cause of death was cancer of the tongue. He was survived by his wife Bertha, sons Fred of Winona and Ervin of La Crosse, daughters Mrs Henry Umbreit of Plainview and Mrs Paul Milbrandt of Altura, five grandchildren, brother Casper B Neiheisel of Chicago and sister Mrs Mary Fister (sic) of Saint Charles. The funeral was held on Saturday at the home by Rev G. E. Reibert, pastor of German Presbyterian church. Undertaker W'm Tredler of Winona was in charge of arrangements.
