Burial*22 Dec 1949 Dane, Dane, Wisconsin (WI), United States (US)3
Biography* Henry Richard Kort, 1872-1949:
Born in Campbell County, Kentucky of Prussian born parents, Henry, married and with two children, was renting a half-duplex at 828 Broadway in Minneapolis' 9th ward in 1900 and working as a laborer. His mother Susan had died soon after Henry was born and his father had remarried. His father and step-mother were also living in the 9th ward, at 424 Jefferson, in 1900. By 1910, Henry and Frances were living in a mortgaged house at 849 Broadway. Henry was working as a house painter. By 1920, they owned their house free of mortgage and Henry was working as a foreman in a coal yard. Henry then moved to the De Forest area of Dane County, Wisconsin where he farmed for 25 years. He became the Norway Grove school janitor circa 1942.

Henry, a resident of Route 1, De Forest, was killed on a Sunday evening when he was struck by a car on the highway near Dane. Heavy fog and mist shrouded the road and Henry was walking near the center of the asphalt pavement. He was on his way from Dane to a daughter's home and was struck about one-third of a mile east of the village. His death, considered accidental by county police, resulted from a skull fracture. Survivors included three daughters, one son, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one sister. Funeral services were held on Thursday at Saint Michael's Church in Dane with the Rev. A. J. Reinl officiating. Pall bearers were Edward (sic) Hornung, Mathew Ripp, Leo Treinen, Theodore Weathernot, Anthony Miller, and Gustave Schmitt.

Biography* John Hornung, 1873-1943:
According to both his county marriage record and his obituary, John was born in Roxbury, Dane County. According to two of his children's county birth records, he was born in Reedsburg, Sauk County. The more likely of these two birth places is Reedsburg, as John was probably born in Winfield Township, north of Reedsburg, where the family lived at the time. After his German born father died, John and his brother George went to live with his paternal grandmother, Anna Hornung. John grew to a man of medium height and medium build with black eyes and hair. He and brother George farmed in the Roxbury Township area, where he was born, for many years except for a few years spent in Sauk City, Sauk County - he is known to have lived in Sauk City from 1918-1924, at least. While he was in Sauk City, he worked as an assembler at the Wisconsin Farm Tractor Company. In 1930, he was living on a farm in Roxbury township. John was married at the Catholic Church in Roxbury by the Rev. Peter Holfletz before witnesses J. George Hornung, his brother, Julia Pulvermacher, his bride's sister?, Edward C. Pulvermacher, his bride's brother?, and Annie Kneck. Circa 1942, he sold the farm in Roxbury Township to former Wisconsin Governer Philip F. La Follette. After the sale, he lived with a daughter at 2613 Hoard Street in Madison.

John died at home on a Saturday. He was survived by four daughters, two sons, five grandchildren, and one sister. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at Saint Aloysius in Sauk City with the Rev. A. J. Goetzman officiating.
