Andrew "Andy" Hanly, 1923-2007:
Andy, 84, of Reiska, Kilcommon, Thurles, Tipperary, died on a Sunday. He reposed on Monday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Funeral Home, Kilcommon with removal to St. Patrick's Church, Kilcommon. Requiem Mass was on Tuesday with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Biography*

Michael Hanley, 1813-1901:
Michael, eldest son of James Hanley and Mary Ryan, married Margaret Delaney from Cronavone in 1844. After the marriage they lived on the Hanley home farm in Reisk townland in the civil parish of Upperchurch. Their first four children were born there and all were christened at the church in Kilcommon.

Sometime between April 1852 and March 1854, Michael and family moved to Cronavone townland in the civil parish of Glenkeen. According to family lore, Margaret Delaney's brothers went to America so her father (or mayhaps the brothers?) gave her the family farm and that's why she and Michael Hanley moved to Cronavone. The Delaney farm consisted of house, offices and 118-acres of land and was rented from Messers. Saurin. In the 1901 census, the house had 5-rooms, was made of stone with a slate roof and 6-windows in front. Michael farmed until his retirement when the farm was taken over by his youngest son James.

Michael, 88, died at home on a Wednesday after a fourteen-day bout with bronchitis. His grandson Thomas Hanly was present and was the informant on the death register.
