In 1900, they owned a mortgaged farm in Sheridan township (don't know if that's the same farm they occupied in 1885). In 1904, they moved to O'Brien County and by 1910, owned a farm free of mortgage in Carroll Township of O'Brien County. In 1912, he and Margaret retired to a house they owned at 715 Washington Avenue in the 2nd ward of Sheldon, O'Brien County. His wife died in that same year. Thomas died on a Wednesday at age 83. He was survived by two sons and four daughters. Thomas' funeral was held from Saint Patrick's church on Saturday the 26th. His nephew Msgr. J. A. Griffin of Fort Dodge, Iowa celebrated the mass. The Rev O'Connor of Worthington acted as deacon and gave the sermon. Rev. English of Sioux City acted as sub-deacon. Thomas left various parcels of land to each of his children. In addition, he left $500 to his nephew the Rev. J. A. Griffin and a piano to an unnamed sister. |

| Biography* | Ethel Downing White Traudt, 1888-1982: Given name Ethel and birth date taken from the 1910 census entry for William White. (Her mother's 1907 obituary listed a surviving daughter living in Hudson as Mrs William White. This is the only Mrs William White found in 1910 census of Hudson.) Iin husband William White's 1919 obituary, she is listed as "formerly Ethel Downing" and as Ethel Downing on her tombstone. If Downing was her maiden name then Patrick Galvin must have been her mother Ellen's 2nd husband and thus Ethel's step-father. Or maybe Downing isn't Ethel's maiden name but a married name and William White was her 2nd husband. Ethel was living at 518 Washington Street in Hudson's 5th Ward in 1910; on East Chatham Street in Chatham Township in 1915; on Austerlitz Street in Chatham Village in 1920 census; and at 19 Library Place in Chatham Village in 1925. She was listed as Ethel D White in 1915 and as Ethel D Traudt in 1925. In 1920, she was listed as a widow living with her uncle William Everett and including her daughter Dorothy White but not son Robert White. Ethel's son William White was living in Canaan with Geo and Carrie VanValkenburgh. In 1925, son Robert was living with his grandfather E Cady White in Chatham; daughter Dorothy was living with Ethel's uncle William Everett in Chatham; and son William was living with herself in Chatham Village. Ethel is buried with her husband William C White. |
