By 1910, James had risen to conductor and he and wife Maud were renting at 128 North 42nd Avenue in Chicago's 34th ward. By 1920, James was working for the NorthWestern railroad and owned a mortgaged house at 3835 Washington Blvd in Chicago's 13th Ward. By 1930, he and Maud owned a $12,000-house at 1038 Latrobe Avenue in Chicago's 37th ward. James worked for the railroad for 40-years. He belonged to the Holy Name Society and the Order of Railroad Conductors of America. James, a resident of 1614 North Leclaire Avenue, died at home on a Thursday at age 73. He had been in ailing health for two-years. James was survived by his wife, one son, four grandchildren, and one brother. His funeral was held on Monday from an Oak Park funeral home and then Saint Peter Canisius church. |
