Biography* Mary Alice Conerty Petersen, 1876-1931:
At some point in her life, Mary Alice moved to Brooklyn, Green County, Wisconsin. At her 1906 marriage, she was living in Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois. Shortly after, she and Mack lived in Alden township of McHenry County and circa 1916, they moved back to Woodstock.


Mary Alice, of 715 Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, died on a Wednesday at age 55. Her funeral service was held at the Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Roderick Murray, Pastor of the Methodist Church.

Mary, age 84, died on a Friday at the local hospital. She had entered the hospital on Monday with a fractured leg which she sustained the previous Saturday with a fall in home. Mary was survived by three daughters and two sons. One daughter preceded her in death. The funeral was held Monday from Saint Patrick's in Hartland.

Biography* Matthew Conerty, 1812-1899:
Matthew immigrated to the United States circa 1835 and first appears living at 37 Elbow, Troy, Rennselaer County New York in 1839. The next year, he was living at 23 Seventh in Troy. By 1844, Matthew had moved to Hartland township, McHenry County, Illinois where he bought 80 acres in section 15 of Hartland township from Patrick and Catherine McCabe, his brother-in-law and sister. He lived on that farm until 1893 when he moved in with his son William.


Mathew died on a Tuesday at age 88. He was survived by three sons and a daughter. The funeral was held at the Saint Patrick's in Hartland township with the Rev. Green officiating. His tombstone is inscribed with a death date of 12 December 1900; his obituary was printed in 1899!

Biography* Patrick Conerty, 1846-1928:
Born and raised on farms in McHenry County, Illinois Patrick was living in Mayfair, Illinois by 1899 (Mayfair, in Cook County, became part of the city of Chicago on 6 June 1894). In 1900, Patrick was renting in the 2700 block of 95th Avenue in Chicago's 27th ward. He was employed by the railroad as a section man. By 1910, Patrick and Mary owned their home at 4062 North Kolmar Avenue. His nephew William Cheesesman, age 21, born in Illinois to an England born father and an Illinois born mother, was living with them and working as a shipping clerk for a paper company.


Patrick died on a Wednesday at age 81. He and his wife were struck by a truck while crossing Irving Park Boulevard at Kolmar Avenue within sight of their home. Patrick was killed instantly and wife Mary was listed as critical in Belmont hospital with a fractured skull. The truck driver, William Sloan, was taken into custody by the police. Patrick's funeral was held on Saturday.

Biography* William Thomas Conerty, 1849-1928:
Born and raised on a farm in Hartland township, McHenry County, Illinois, William was married in Fillmore County, Minnesota in 1872. By 1875, he was living in Carrolton township there and by 1875 in village of Lanesboro. In 1887, William moved back to McHenry County, Illinois and in 1900, was renting a farm in Dunham township. William's first wife died in 1908. In 1910, he owned a mortgaged farm in Hartland township. A hired man and two servants were living with him. And in 1911, he married for a second time. Circa 1918, William bought a house free of mortgage at 418 Eastman Street South in the 1st ward of Harvard City in Chemung township. In 1925, he moved in with his daughter Lillie in Woodstock.


William died on a Monday at age 79. He was survived by his second wife, two daughters, five sons, one sister, one brother, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. William's funeral was held on Wednesday from his daughter Lillie's house on Clay Street in Woodstock. Services were provided by Rev. E. K. Hershey of the Presbyterian Church (both of William's marriages were performed by Catholic priests). Pall bearers were William White, Terrance McCabe, Joseph Peacock, Charles Stone, William Lounsbury, and Thomas McConnell. Funeral attendees included: Patrick Conerty, Mrs Anna McNery, M/M Harold Jurs, M/M Harold Hanson (all of Chicago); M/M Terrance McCabe and son Raymond, M/M P. McGuire, M/M Ben Nolan, Mrs Howard Goddard, Miss Mary Mahon and family, Miss Jennie Ferguson, Michael Murphy (all of Hartland); Thomas McConnel (of Harvard); and M/M William White (of Crystal Lake).

Biography* Anna Conroy Brown, 1866-1946:
Anna's father died when she was very young and her mother remarried to Patrick McCarthy. According to family lore, Anna had a step-sister Mame whose first husband was a Silk and whose second husband was a McGee. She also may have had an aunt Mary that lived with her. She also had a step-brother William McCarthy who lived in Pittsfield. After Anna's husband died in 1911, Anna continued to live for a time at the 24 Warren Street address in Hudson. In 1920, she was living at 251 Warren Street in Hudson's first ward. And by 1925, at 520 Washington in Hudson's fifth ward with her son-in-law and daughter, George and Catherine Young. Circa 1944, she moved with her daughter to 213 Regent Road in Norfolk, Virginia.

Anna died on a Tuesday at the home of her daughter. She was survived by her daughter, one son, one sister, and one brother. Her funeral was arranged by H. D. Oliver, Norfolk, Virginia.

Biography* Winifred Constentine Ryan, 1842-1895:
We have little confidence in Winifred's maiden name. It may have been Considine. Winifred died on a Monday at age 52. She had been sick with the gripp but appoplexy was the immediate cause of death. Winifred was survived by her husband and five children. Her funeral was held from the home on Wednesday. Over 125 teams (of horses) took part in the procession to the cemetery.

Biography* Mary Conway Manley, 1870-????:
The first of two daughters born to Irish parents, Mary was raised on a farm. In 1895, she married Charles Manley of Dane County. How they met isn't known but Charles had two sisters that lived in Rock County so presumably he met Mary when he visited his sisters from time-to-time. After Charles died in 1899, Mary continued to operate the farm in partnership with her brother-in-law Con Manley. By 1910, she and her two children had moved into a purchased house in Sun Prairie Village. Located at 97 Jones Street, the house was valued at $4,000 in 1930. She did not own a radio. By 1948, Mary was living in Waupun, Wisconsin, presumably with or near son Harold.

Biography* John Henry Corcoran, 1875-1939:
John lived most of his life in McHenry County except for a period around 1907 when he was employed as an electrician in Chicago. In 1880, John's family was living in Dunham township, McHenry County. In 1900, he was living in Hartland township with Terry and Julia McCabe. In 1910, John and Alice were living at 525 Austin Avenue in Woodstock's 4th ward and he was working at Bunker Bros. grocery. In 1920 they were living at at 603 Austin Avenue and John was employed in the typewriter factory. He also was employed for many years at Slavin & Eastman furniture and undertaking store. John suffered a serious fall circa 1924 and never fully recovered. His wife died in 1935.


John died on a Sunday at county hospital. He was 63. John was survived by four sons and two daughters. The funeral was held on Tuesday from St Mary's Catholic church. Thomas Merwin funeral home was in charge.
