Biography* Joseph James Brennan, 1899-1946:
The sixth child of William Brennan and Margaret Ruddy, Jospeh was born on the family farm in Carrolton township. His birth was recorded in 1941 by an affidavit dated 11 July of that year. After schooling, Joseph worked as a farm laborer. He continued farming after his marriage, until 1931 when he and Clarissa moved to Minneapolis. According to family lore Joseph and Clarissa separated in 1940 and she later obtained a divorce. Joseph did not work regularly after moving to Minneapolis and after 1940 didn't have much contact with the family.

About 15 May 1940, Joseph, age 46, began employment as a railroader working out of Minneapolis. The night of Tuesday the 11th of June, he was struck by an automobile while walking across a railroad grade crossing near Howard Lake in Wright county, west of Minneapolis. Joseph died a few hours later as a result of the injuries he sustained. Joseph was survived by his parents, his ex-wife, five brothers, and two sisters. His funeral was conducted on Saturday from Ascension church in Minneapolis and he was buried beside his sister Nellie in the family lot in Saint Mary's cemetery, Minneapolis.

Martin was christened on 20 March 1836 at Clara in County Kilkenny, Ireland. He came to America and lived in Watertown, New York for three years. When he came to Minnesota, he took a claim in Section 14 of Chatfield township in Fillmore County. By 1870, Martin had amassed $3,000 in real (estate) property and another $1,500 in personal property.

Martin's health began to decline and aware of his own mortality he drew up a will which he signed on 8 January 1903. He died on a Friday, six months later, at his home on Main Street. Martin was 67. He was survived by his wife, seven children and two brothers. His funeral was held at Saint Mary's on Monday and was officiated by the Rev's E. J. O'Connell and W'm. Riordan.

Biography* Patrick M. Brennan, 1840-1915:
(includes excerpts from "The Brennans of Chatfield" by William E. Gallagher)
Two sources disagree on Patrick's birthplace. It is listed as Castlewarren in William Gallagher's book; as
Knockadeen in baptismal rcd. Patrick's christening sponsors were Thomas and Margaret Tobin. His middle initial was provided by Carole Brennan Demers. In 1870, Patrick had real estate worth $1,300 and a personal estate worth $650. He was living in Chatfield township, Fillmore County, Minnesota and working as a farm laborer. His brother-in-law David Noonan was living with Patrick, his wife and their two children. By 1900, the family had moved to Springwater township, Rock County, Minnesota where Patrick, now a naturalized citizen of the United States, owned a mortgaged farm. By 1910, ownership of the mortgaged farm had passed to his son Martin. Patrick, who had retired, and Margaret continued to live with Martin on the farm.

Patrick, 74, died on a Wednesday.
