Biography* John J. Boylan, 1873-1955:
Born in Northern Ireland, John immigrated into the USA in 1889. In 1900, an unmarried laborer, he was living with Theodore (age 29 and born in Germany) and Mary (age 29 and born in Ireland) Knaff and three other boarders in Graceville township, Big Stone County, Minnesota. By 1910, John, married and with three children, owned a mortgaged farm in Parnell township, Traverse County, Minnesota. His sister Elizabeth, age 19, and brother Barney (Bernard), age 17, both born in Minnesota, were living with them. In 1920, John's younger brother Bernard (Barney), now 26, was living with them.

John, age 81, died on a Sunday in Big Stone County.

Bridget grew up on a farm in Chatfield township, Fillmore County, Minnesota. When her father died in 1903, Bridget was living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1920, Sr Canice was living in a convent at 1223 West 67th Street in Chicago's 32nd ward. There were 21 nuns in the convent, twelve of whom were Irish or first generation Irish-Americans. Sr Canice was a teacher. In 1930, she was living in a convent at 505 Van Buren in Milwaukee's 3rd ward. There were 27 nuns in the convent, 13 of whom were Irish or first generation. Sr. Canice was a teacher in a parochial school.

Sr. Canice, 82, died on a Wednesday.

Biography* Bridget Brennan Bonn, 1869-1912:
In 1900, Bridget was a single housekeeper living with her brother John in Springwater township, Rock County, Minnesota. On the 23rd of October in that year she was married to John Bonn by Father Martin before witnesses P. F. Bonn and Johanna Brennan. The reception following the ceremony took place in the hall in Sherman. Bridget and her husband made their home in Rose Dell township after the first of November. By 1910, was widowed and living in Springwater with her brother Martin.

Bridget died of colon cancer on a Monday, age 42. A Tom Brennan, resident of Garretson, South Dakota, was the informant on the death record. If her brother Thomas lived in Garretson it was only for a short while. In 1910, he was living in Rock County, Minnesota and by 1913 in Oakes, North Dakota. Bridget's brother Martin lived in Garretson. Maybe the death record is not correct about the informant.4

Biography* Carol M. Brennan Flanagan, 1914-1999:
Probably born in Springwater township of Rock County, Minnesota to parents also born in Minnesota, Carol completed high school and the attended normal school. A resident of Garretson in 1933, she was married to Walter Flanagan in Sioux Falls. The marriage was witnessed by Clarence Flanagan of Rock Rapids, Iowa (the groom's brother?) and Carol's sister Dolores Brennan of Sherman. After marriage, they lived in rural Garretson. They were members of St Rose of Lima parish and Carol was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America where she served for some years as regent. Carol also worked as a social worker in social services. After retirement, her husband died in 1979, Carol lived for a time with her daughter in Kansas City. Later, she moved into the Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. Her final months were spent at Palisade Manor in Garretson.

Carol Flanagan, age 85, died on a Thursday at Palisade Manor in Garretson. Causes of death were pneumonia, cardiac arrest, and alzheimer dementia. Carol was survived by one son, two daughters, nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchilren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral was held on Saturday from Saint Rose of Lima church in Garretson. Minnehaha Funeral Home was in charge.

Have not discovered David's whereabouts from 1880 to 1910. He was married in 1902 maybe in Illinois (his wife was from there). Son Bernard was born in Moody County, South Dakota in 1905. David and wife Mary separated in 1906. In 1910, he is divorced, with no occupation, living in Riverdale township, Dickey County, North Dakota close to his brother Daniel. In 1913, son Bernard came to live with his father on David's homestead in school district 22 north of Hingham, Hill County, Montana. In 1920, there was a mortgage on the farm. [this last from Carole Brennan Demers. The middle names for David and Mary and the second name for son Bernard also from Carole Brennan Demers.]

Biography* Hanorah E. "Nona" Brennan Laivell, 1876-1964:
Hanorah was christened on 5 March 1876 at Saint Mary's in Chatfield, Fillmore County, Minnesota by the Rev. William Riordan before William Ryan, Hanorah's uncle, her mother's brother, and Anastasia Ryan, her uncle's wife. She grew up on a farm in Chatfield township and by 1895 was employed for eight-months-a-year as a school teacher. By 1900, she and her parents had moved into Chatfield City. After her marriage, she and her husband continued to live in the city.

Nona, 88, died on a Saturday.

Biography* John Brennan, 1867-1950:
In 1900, John owned a mortgaged farm in Springwater township, Rock County, Minnesota. His sister Bridget was living with him. By 1906, he was living in Sherman, Minnehaha County, South Dakota and in that year was married.
John Brennan was married in St. Leo's Catholic church in Pipestone by the Rev. Father Joseph Flannagan. William Brennan and Anna Brennan, of Sherman, were witnesses. After the service a wedding breakfast was served at Hotel Calumet. He and his bride left on the Milwaukee in the afternoon for Sioux Falls, where they spent a few days before going to their home in Sherman. [this wedding description excerpted from the Demers GEDCOM]. In 1910, John owned his house in Sherman, free of mortgage, and was working as a rural mail carrier. By 1920, he was back in Springwater township and farming.

John, age 82, died on a Thursday after a long illness. He was survived by three children: Paul Brennan at home; Mrs Walter Flanagan of Garretson; and, Mrs R. J. Edstrom of Saint Paul, Minnesota. The funeral was held on Saturday from Saint Rose of Lima church in Garretson.5
