Biography* Mack Petersen, 1867-1944:
Most sources spell Mack's surname as Peterson. However, his obituary and state death record spell it Petersen which is the spelling we have used for himself and his parents. Mack entered the United States in 1892 and was naturalized (become a U.S. citizen) in 1897. Married in 1906 to Mary Alice Conerty, they had no children. By 1920, they owned a house with mortgage at 715 Seminary Avenue, Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois. He retired from buttermaking at this time and later worked part-time at Woodstock Typewriter. In 1930, the house was valued at $5,000. He was a lifetime member of Danish Brotherhood. Wife Mary Alice died in 1931.

Mack, 76, died on a Wednesday after a serious illness of 3-weeks. He was survived by brothers and sisters in Denmark plus a sister and a brother in the states. The funeral service was conducted on Saturday from the James R. Pierce funeral home on Washington Street by the Rev. Bruce Gilles of the Presbyterian church.

Biography* John H. Rahilly, ca1877-1952:
John was a first generation Irish-American farmer. His father John was from County Clare and first settled in Sesquehana County, Pennsylvania with his parents. John's mother was from County Cork and first settled in Canada with her parents before moving to Iowa and the Olmsted County. In 1880, the family farmed in High Forest township of Olmsted County, Minnesota. In 1900, his widowed mother Ellen owned a mortgaged farm of 640-acres in section 31 of Grand Meadow township in Mower County. John had nine siblings, five of whom were living. In 1911, John operated the family farm which by this time had grown to 1,000-acres. On this farm are kept about fifty head of horses, 200 head of cattle and about 200 head of hogs. John and his brother, at the death of their father, took charge of the home farm, and since then two more farms have been purchased and added to the original one until now the farm is a very valuable piece of real estate. John is at present chairman of Grand Meadow township, one of the directors of the Mower County Fair Association, secretary and director of the Mower County Farmers’ Telephone Company, and an officer of his school district. He has also taken an active part in the affairs of the church at Grand Meadow and is one of its trustees. By 1918, he had retired from farming and was working as a farm inspector. In 1920, John and Beatrice owned a mortage free home at 404 Mankato Street in Austin's 2nd ward. By 1930, they owned an $18,000 house at 1025 Postland Avenue in the 7th ward of Saint Paul, Ramsey County. John was proprietor of an industrial products company. [part of this bio was excerpted from a History of Mower County, 1911/pp.962-3.]

John died on a Wednesday at about age 75.
