Biography* Daniel William Mulcahy, 1878-1962:
According to both his Columbia County marriage record and his Dane County death record, Daniel was born in the town of Sun Prairie. And although his parents did live in Sun Prairie (actually Burke township) when they first came to Wisconsin from New York state, by 1878 they were living in the town of Dane. It is much more likely that Daniel was born in Dane township. Daniel, the tenth of eleven children and the eighth son, spent most of his life farming in the rural Dane area. He was a man of medium height and build with brown eyes and dark hair. In 1937, Daniel and his wife retired and moved to Waunakee.

Daniel, 83, died at his home in Waunakee on a Saturday following a long illness. He was survived by his wife, six daughters, three sons, 44 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Tuesday from Saint John's Catholic church with the pastor, Rev. Raymond H. Ziegler, officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Math Frederick, Frank Vasen, A. M. Hellenbrand, Larry Endres, Jerry Kessenich, and Werner Wipperfurth. Active pallbearers were six grandsons, Raymond Mulcahy Jr., Daniel (Jack) Mulcahy, Robert Koch, Thomas Uebersetzig, John Kayartz Jr., and Clarmont Redders Jr.

Biography* Dennis Mulcahy, 1828-1913:
There is a discrepancy on Dennis' birthdate. His Dane County, Wisconsin death record lists his birthdate as 24 December 1827. The informant on this death record was his son Thomas. A birthdate of 9 June 1828 is listed on his tombstone. Unknown who ordered the tombstone. It's possible the birthdate was listed on the tombstone while Dennis was still alive. According to his obituary, Dennis was born in Carrignavar, County Cork. A search of Carrignavar parish records, which exist from 1806, failed to find a christening record for him.

Dennis, an illiterate farmer born in Ireland, came to the United States in 1843 and worked as an overseer on a large garden and fruit farm for a number of years. By 1857 he was living in Hudson, New York where he married Catherine Galvin. In 1865, Dennis, Catherine and their three children moved to Burke Township in Dane County, Wisconsin (a fourth child born in New York had died in infancy). Three more children were born to them while living in Burke. In 1871, the family moved to Dane Township. Here they remained while four more chiildren came to bless their home. After Catherine died in 1910, Dennis went to live with his son Daniel.

Dennis, 85, died on a Thursday at his old residence near Dane. He was survived by eight of his eleven children all of whom lived in Dane. He was also survived by 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Biography* Dennis Mulcahy, 1862-1936:
Dennis Mulcahy's death record, obituary, and tombstone all list his birth year as 1859. The death record and obituary list his birthplace as Buffalo, New York. Wife Sara was the informant for the death record and presumably was also the source for the obit. However, there is other, more substantial, evidence that Dennis was born near Hudson, New York in 1862. The third child of eleven and the second son of Dennis Mulcahy and Catherine Galvin was christened on 8 June 1862 at St.Mary's Catholic parish in Hudson. The church christening records list his birth date as 1 June 1962. After their 1909 marriage, he and Sara lived on a farm near Dane. Circa 1912, they moved to Clifton in Monroe County where they lived for nineteen years before returning to a farm near Dane. In the fall of 1935 they returned, once again, to Clifton.

Dennis, 73, died suddenly and unexpectedly of a stroke at his home in Clifton on a Monday evening. He was survived by his wife, one daughter, four brothers, and two sisters plus several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at Saint Aloysius Catholic church in Sauk City on Thursday with Rev. Buckle officiating.
