Biography* Cornelius "Con" Manley, 1856-1933:
The second of ten children and first son born to Michael Manley and Mary Galvin, Con was christened on 24 August 1856 at Saint Mary's in Hudson. His sponsors were Thomas Galvin, his mother's brother, and Ellen Galvin, his mother's sister. Circa 1878, Con left home and ventured west to seek fame and fortune. He eventually rose to foreman on a large wheat farm in Moorhead, Minnesota. Circa 1893 he returned to Wisconsin and, with his brother Charles, purchased the Rand farm four miles southeast of Sun Prairie.

After brother Charles died in 1899, Con continued to operate this mortgaged farm in partnership with his brother's widow Mary Conway. Then, when he married in 1906, he moved to another farm one and one-half miles from the Village and by 1910 owned this farm free of mortgage. Some years later, he moved to still another farm four miles southeast of the Village. Con retired in 1918, bought a house in Sun Prairie Village, and moved into town on the 5th of November of that year.

Con, 76, died at his home on a Monday. Funeral services were held from Sacred Hearts on Wednesday with the Rev. Haeusler officiating. Pallbearers were nephews Fred Boss, Frank Tracy, Harold Manley, Mark Manley, Vernon Manley, and Robert Manley.
