He joined the New York City Police Department and eventually retired as a detective of the Chief Inspector's office. He was a life member of the Hudson Council Knights of Columbus and a member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks. He was also a member of the Captain Edward Grant Post, American Legion, Bronx, New York. James died on a Monday at his home in the (Borough of the) Bronx. He was survived by his second wife, one daughter, one brother, and one sister. His funeral, arranged by Cooks Funeral Home in the Bronx, was held on Thursday at Saint Margaret's, 260th and Riverdale Avenue, in the Bronx. |

| Biography* | John H. King, 1861-1899: A well known and popular resident of the second ward, John died on a Monday at age 37. He had been taken with the grip a few weeks before and pneumonia developed. He rapidly failed after that and his heart stopped. He was survived by his wife and five small children. The funeral was held on Wednesday from his 214 State Street residence and then from Saint Mary's. John's tombstone lists his birth year as 1860. |

| Biography* | Rev. John J. King, 1890-1956: John was widely noted as an athelete in his youth. He was a basketball and baseball star at Saint Mary's Academy and later played both of those sports at Niagara University. John entered the seminary at Niagara and was ordained on 14 June 1919. He was atheltic director of the Albany diocese for many years and served at Saint Paul of the Apostles in Troy, New York for 13 years. John also served at the New York State Coxsackie Vocational School as chaplain, at Altamont, Green Island, New York, and had been pastor of Our Lady of Mercy, Albany since 1946. Father John died on a Friday at Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York City. He was survived by two brothers and one sister. |

| Biography* | Paul F. King, 1898-1970: At Paul's christening, Mary Martin was listed as godmother. Not sure who this is. Paul's mother, Margaret Martin, didn't have any sisters named Mary but she did have two brothers that married Marys. Her brother John Martin married Mary Shea and brother Daniel Martin married Mary Kennedy. Both brothers lived in Hudson. When a young man, Paul worked as an electrician on the railroad. Sometime after 1920, he went to New York City and joined the Fire Department where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. After his retirement he moved back to Hudson. There he served as secretary of the Hudson Civil Service Commission and worked as manager of the Columbia Wine and Liquor Store. Paul lived at 4 Union Turnpike in Hudson. He was a Third and Fourth Degree member of Hudson Council 316, Knights of Columbus and a member of Hudson Lodge of Elks. Paul died on a Saturday at the Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was survived by one sister, one niece, and one sister-in-law. Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the McDonald's Funeral Home and then from Saint Mary's. |

| Biography* | John J. Laivell, 1851-1924: John emigrated Ireland for Canada in 1864. Eleven years later, 1875, he moved on to Fillmore County, Minnesota, U.S.A. and settled in Fountain township. In 1887, he gave up farming and moved for the last time to Chatfield City where he operated a saloon. By 1900, he owned his home free of mortgage. John died on a Thursday at age 73. His estate was approved for probate on 18 September 1924 at Preston, Fillmore County. |

| Biography* | Patrick Henry Laivell, 1877-1956: Patrick's christening sponsors were Patrick Walsh, his father's half brother, and Bridget McCabe, his mother's sister. Variously known as P. H., Patrick, P. Henry and Henry throughout his life. Patrick was employed in farming in Fountain township, Fillmore County, Minnesota before his marriage. In 1887, Patrick moved to Chatfield City in Fillmore County and by 1900 had entered the clothing business where he was to remain. When Patrick registered for the WWI draft in 1918 at age 41, he was described as a man of medium height and build with brown eyes and gray hair. Patrick died on a Tuesday at age 79. |
