Biography* Erdeen A. Klapperich Brennan, 1911-2011:
Erdeen was the second born of four, with one younger sister. In 1920, the family was living in Walcott township, Rice County, Minnesota. Her father Frank was a farmer and a 1st generation German-American born in South Dakota. Her mother Lea was born in Illinois to a father born in Vermont and a mother born in Illinois. Erdeen completed 4-years of high school. By 1930, Erdeen's mother was remarried to Dutchman Peter Van Hout. Erdeen and her sister Elizabeth were living with their mother and brick-layer step-father, also in Walcott township. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Saint Mary's School of Nursing in 1933. In 1935, Erdeen was living in Fairbault, Minnesota. In 1940, she and Canada born Eleanor Shaw were renting at 1301 First Street South in Rochester's 2nd ward for $39.50/month. They both were working as senior nurses at Saint Mary's Hospital. Erdeen worked 48-hours the week-endind 30 March. In 1939, she worked 52-weeks and earned wages of $1,000. Later, Erdeen worked at the Mayo Clinic, where she retired in May of 1976.

Erdeen Adele Brennan, 100, of Rochester, died on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Maple Manor Health Care and Rehabilitation. She designated that her body be donated to the University of Minnesota School of Medicine for scientific and educational purposes. Survivors included her son, daughter, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Erdeen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Brennan; brothers, Roy and Clarence Klapperich; and sister, Loretta Sheahan. A memorial service for Erdeen was held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Macken Funeral Home. Memorials were preferred to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's research. Macken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
