Biography* Paul J. Hess, 1880-1907:
Christened on 2 April 1880 at Saint Luke's in Plain by the Rev. Jos. Buss and sponsored by Peter Shaty and Paul Schreiner.

Paul died on a Saturday at his home in Spring Green after being afflicted with tuberculosis for six months. His mother had accompanied him to Dakota during the summer in the hopes that the change would improve his condition, but there was no perceptible improvement. He was survived by his mother, five brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Thursday morning at Saint John's in Spring Green with the pastor, Rev. Colling, officiating.

Biography* Peter W. Hess, 1880-1920:
Christened on 2 April 1880 at Saint Luke's in Plain by the Rev. Jos. Buss and sponsored by Peter Shaty and Paul Schreiner. Peter grew to a man of medium height and slender build with brown eyes and hair. He was a successful cheesemaker for twenty years having owned and operated factories at Cazenovia, Hillsborough (sic), Gotham, Lone Rock, and Ironton. He resided in Hillsborough (sic), Vernon County in 1907; in Gotham, Richland County in 1909 & 1912; in Lavalle (sic), Sauk County in 1920; and one mile east of Ironton, Sauk County in 1920. His wife was from Cazenovia, which is mostly in Richland County.

Peter died at home in Ironton Township on a Tuesday from Bright's disease and ulcers of the stomach. He was survived by his wife, his mother, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Saturday at Saint John's in Spring Green with the Rev. J. B. Brudermanns officiating.

Biography* Philip J. Hess, 1882-1909:
Philip's family moved to Wilson Creek in Spring Green Township soon after he was born, and this is where he grew up. He was married, probably at Saint John's in Spring Green, by the Rev. Jos. Colling with witnesses George Hess, his brother, and Pauline Groulter. He worked as a farmer.

Philip became "subject to severe attacks of spinal trouble which later spread to his head causing partial unconsciousness for several days and finally death" (from his obituary). His death occured on a Wednesday. Philip was survived by his wife, a seven-month-old son, his mother, four brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Saturday at Saint John's in Spring Green with the Rev. Brudermann officiating.

Biography* Raymond Henry Hess, 1908-1993:
Raymond was christened on 7 June 1908 at Saint John's in Spring Green with sponsors Oscar P. Jordan and Carrie Needham Jordan. He worked on different farms in Sumpter township, Honey Creek township (Denzer), and Troy township (Black Hawk and Witwen), all in Sauk County. Later he worked as a janitor in the Sauk Prairie schools until his retirement. He was a resident of Sauk County Health Care Center from August of 1992.

Raymond died on a Wednesday at Reedsburg Memorial Hospital. He was survived by one sister. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services were held on Saturday from Saint Aloysius in Prairie du Sac with the Rev. William Seipp officiating.

Biography* Wilhelmina "Minnie" Hess Dodge, 1876-1932:
Wilhelmina was christened on 5 November 1876 at Saint Luke's in Plain by the Rev. Emmanuel Moppey and sponsored by Elisa Cath Hess (Wilhelmina's father had a sister named Elisabeth and a sister named Catherine - which one is this sponsor?). She and Charles were married on a Friday by the Rev. J. E. Webster. They are living in Spring Green in 1899; at 101 Lincoln in Janesville in 1900; in Arlington Heights, Cook County, Illinois in 1907, 1910 and 1912; at 307 State Road, Wheeling Tp, Arlington Heights in 1920; and, in Arlington Heights in 1928.

Minnie died at her home on a Saturday of acute bronchitis and edema of the lungs. She was attended by Dr. B. T. Best of Arlington Heights. Her funeral was held at the Arlington Heights catholic church on Monday. Burial services were conducted by the Rev. Chas. Surges.
