Biography* Theresia Alt Neuheisel Bindl, 1853-1929:
Therese Alt came to the United States alone at age 18, arriving at the Port of New York aboard the ss Main on 24 June 1871. She was in Spring Green nine-days-later, on July 3rd.

After husband Balthasar died, Theresia continued to operate the farm with her children. She applied to the Bureau of Pensions to have Balthasar's invalid's pension reissued as a widow's pension. Beginning on 18 August 1892, Theresia Alt Neuheisel recieved a widow's pension of $12 per month. This included $2 per month for each of her two children under sixteen, Anton and Mary M., which would continue until they reached that age. That is, until 16 January 1894 in the case of Anton and until 19 November 1896 in the case of Mary M. On 21 November 1896, Theresia Neuheisel, widow of Balthasar, granted 100 90/160 acres in six lots in Franklin Township (57 acres in two lots in Section 7, 23 90/160 acres in three lots in Section 9, and 20 acres in Section 18) to son Henry Neuheisel for $3000. Theresia signed. Also on 21 November 1896, Henry and Katherine Neuheisel granted a mortgage to Theresia Neuheisel, both of Franklin Township, on 100 90/160 acres in six lots in Franklin Township for $1800. Henry and Katherine both signed.

Two days later, Theresia married widower Michael Bindl and went to live with him on his farm in Spring Green Township. Her four living children, ages 22, 21, 18 and 16, remained on the Franklin Township farm. The oldest son Henry had been married himself the week before. Shortly after her 2nd marriage Theresia Neuheisel (now Bindl) assigned the mortgage granted from Henry and Katherine Neuheisel to Thomas Evans of Spring Green for $1800. Theresia signed as Theresia Bindl. Circa 1912 Theresia and Michael retired and moved into the village. After Michael Bindl died in 1917, Theresia went to live with her son Anton.

Theresia, age 75, died at home in Spring Green on a Tuesday. The funeral was held at Saint John's in Spring Green with the Rev. C. B. Weikman officiating. Her burial service was held at Saint Luke's in Plain with the Rev. Chas. Surges officiating.
