Biography* Phillip Embser, 1821-????:
Phillip immigrated to the United States from his native Bavaria circa 1846. In late 1847 he was living in Lyons township, Walworth County, Wisconsin. Phillip's wife Catharina apparently died between January 1848, when their third child was born and June 1850, when he was lviing in Lyons township with the three children. On 02 December 1850, Phillip, a resident of Sauk County, purchased, for $50 cash, 40-acres of land in Dellona township, Sauk County, Wisconsin from the Register of the Land Office (General Land Office of the United States) at Mineral Point, Wisconsin for $1.25/acre and received a receipt and certificate. On 01 April 1952, he deposited the certificate at Mineral Point and received of a patent for the land. The 40-acres of land was described as the North West Quarter of the South East Quarter of Section 30 in Township 13 North of Range 5 East (Dellona township, Sauk County). Nothing more has been learned about Philipp or his family with any certainty.

Phillip may have married again and fathered a fourth child. There is a Phillip Emser who is living in Looney township of Polk County, Missouri in 1860 who may be our man. The family consists of Phillip himself, wife Mary, daughters Mary and Margaret, and sons John and David. If the son John is the same as the son Phillip we already knew about then this may be our Phillip. The ages of the father Phillip and children Mary, Margaret and John match the ages of the three children we already knew about. This daughter Mary married a man from the state of Virginia named Samuel Joyce. Mary and Samuel lived in Leesville township, Henry County, Missouri and are buried in the town of Clinton in the same county. No further trace has been found of Philliip or any of the other children.
