| Biography* | Ellen Coleman Carroll, 1856-????: Ellen's christening sponsors were Patrick Sheehan and Catherine Callaghan. The family lived at White View, a place that hasn't been identified yet. Presumably it is in Glanmire church parish. Ellen may have moved to Queenstown sometime before 1878 when she sponsored her nephew John Steptoe at his christening at St. Colman's. Later in that year, she was a witness at the marriage of her sister Julia Coleman to Daniel Steptoe at St. Colman's and the following year sponsored their first child, Mary Steptoe, at her christening. Ellen's husband died in 1907 and she assumed the duties of head-of-household. In 1911, the familly was living at East Beach in Queenstown. The dwelling place was a public house and Ellen was the vintner. The building had stone walls, a slate roof, 12 rooms and eight windows in the front. There were ten people in the house: Ellen, her five children - a sixth child had died - plus four boarders all from England. There also was a store house on the property. |

| Death* | 11 Apr 1916 | Queenstown, Clonmel, Cork, Ireland4 |
| Burial* | 23 Apr 1917 | Ballymore, Templerobin, Cork, Ireland5 |
| Biography* | Ellen Coleman Fitzgerald, ca1826-1916: According to family lore, Ellen Coleman was from Ringaskiddy but we know little else about her before her 1845 marriage. Several Coleman's were witnesses/sponsors at Fitzgerald/Coleman events in Cobh church records. Michael Coleman was a witness at the 1845 wedding and was sponsor to a christening in 1846. Thomas Coleman was sponsor to a 1853 christening. And Eliza Coleman was sponsor at three christenings in 1854, 1863 and 1864. Any or all of these Coleman's could be related to Ellen maybe even siblings. Another tidbit according to family lore is that Ellen's siter married a Fitzgibbon who was the Prime Minister of Australia. In 1901, Ellen was living with her family in a building in West Beach that had a drapery shop in addition to living quarters. The building had stone walls, a slate roof, and 16 rooms with 10 windows-in-front. There were five-out-buildings on the property. Eleven people were living in the house including two children, a son-in-law, two grandchildren, two shop assistants and a servant. Ellen, a daughter and one grand-child were Irish speakers. In 1911, seven people lived in 12-rooms in the building including two sons, two grand-children and two female servants. Two out-buildings remained: a turf house and a store house. Ellen, age 92, died on a Tuesday. Her daughter Geraldine Denvir was the informant on her death cert. Cobh burial records list her internment date as 23 April 1917 (as transcribed). Why one-year & 12-days after her death is unexplained. |

| Biography* | Geraldine M. "Gerry" Coleman Cody, 1911-1982: Born on a Sunday in the family home on East Beach, Geraldine was christened at Saint Colman's Cathedral in Cobh. When Geraldine's father went off to France to save the British Empire from the German Kaiser, she and her younger sister were sent to live at the Rushbrooke orphanage in Cobh. This was done courtesy of the British government who financed this option for families whose breadwinner was serving in the British Army. Gerry entered Rushbrooke on 3 June 1914 at age three and left five years later in August 1919. Gerry, her mother and sisters came to the United States through Canada. They emigrated Cobh on 2 September 1919 aboard the Steamship Minnendosa. After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the ship entered the St. Lawrence River stopping at Quebec. Gerry and the others continued on by boat to Detroit, Michigan where they entered the United States and boarded a train for St. Louis to join her uncle, the Rev. Joe English. Gerry lived with her mother at 4918 Forest Park Blvd, St.Louis. She grew to be a large woman of 5-foot 7-and-half-inches in height and weighing 130 pounds. She was possessed of fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. In 7 September 1934, Gerry was granted citizenship at the District Court, Eastern District of Missouri at St. Louis. Gerry and Tom Cody were married at Epiphany Church, Smiley and Ivanhoe Avenues, Saint Louis by her brother-in-law John P. Cody. The reception afterward was held at the home of the groom's parents, 4464 Margaretta Ave. She and Tom raised their family of six, one boy and five girls, in St. Engelbert's Parish at 4601 Penrose. The church is located at Shreve and Carter Avenues in Saint Louis. Geraldine died on a Saturday of cardiac arrest, and a myocardial infarction. She was attended by Dr. Jitendra K. Gupta, 14377 Woodlake Dr 63107. Gerry was survived by five daughters, and two sisters. Her funeral was held on Monday from St. Louis Cathedral, 4431 Lindell Blvd. Collier's funeral home, 10123 St. Charles Rock Road, was in charge of arrangements. |
