Biography* Daniel Steptoe, c1855-1913:
Daniel was a resident of Queen Street, Queenstown at the time of his 1878 marriage and employed as a ship's pilot. In 1889, when his son Walter was born, the family was living at 14 Queen Street. In 1901, the family was living at Scotts Square, Queenstown in a building that was both a shop and private residence. The building had stone walls, a tile roof, nine rooms and 14 windows in front. It was rated at 1st class. In addition to Daniel, Julia and their son, there were two live-in servants and five lodgers. In 1911, the family lived in a public house at Scotts Square. The building had stone walls, a slate roof, seven rooms and 12 windows in front. in addition to the family and two others, a barmaid and a house servant, there were five boarders, four Irishmen and one Englishman, who were crewmen on the British warship H.M.S. Hood.

Daniel age 59, died on a Thursday.

Biography* Alexander Ivan. Tolmazoff, ca1881-1934:
From family lore: Alexander was a Cossack Russian refugee from Cardiff, Wales. He fled Anapa, Russia on the Black Sea to escape the revolution. Alexander had brothers and sisters but he was the only family member that left Russia. One brother was a mayor, a sister was a contessa. At the time of his 1918 marriage, Alexander was living at 23 Patrick Street in Cardiff, Wales and working as a mariner. According to the marriage record, Alexander's deceased father had been an Army Staff Captain.


Alexander, a married engineer living in Mallow, died on a Friday in Mallow hospital of cerebral haemorrhage and cardiac failure. Death was certfied by W. O'Sullivan, Mallow hospital.

Biography* Michael "Micha" Tolmazoff, 1922-1963:
Several years after his father died, Michael, his mother and his brother enigrated Ireland for British Columbia, Canada. He married in Vancouver and was employed as an iron worker. The family lived for a time in Vancouver and later in Surrey. Michael was very outgoing and charismatic. He also was musically talented playing the piano and bones and singing.

Michael died in an accident on a Friday. He was 41-years-old. Michael was survived by his wife and five small children.

Biography* Robert Walsh, 1846-1918:
In 1911, Robert, his wife, three of their seven children and one servant were living in Knocklong East, County Limerick. Their house, a private dwelling, had stone walls, a slate roof and nine rooms with 12 windows in front. There were also nine out-buildings on the property including a stable, coach house, cow house, calf house, piggery, fowl house, boiling house, barn and shed.

Robert, age 72, died on a Sunday of senile decay. His son Geoff was informant on the death cert.
