| Biography* | Margaret Breen English, ca1851-1916: After her husband Patrick's death in 1905, Margaret became the leaseholder of the family farm, consisting of house, offices and land on lots 6a, 7 and 7a in Glenbane towland and parish, Shronell district, County Tpiperary. Land consisted of 51 acres-16 perch and was valued at 51£/05s/0d. Buildings were valued at 2£/05s/0d. In 1911, the house was rated as 2nd class and consisted of stone walls, slate roof, with three rooms and three windows in front. It was occupied by Margaret and five children. There were 11 out buildings on the property including stable, coach house, harness room, cow house, calf house, piggery, fowl house, barn, potato house, shed, and store house. Margaret could sign her name. Margaret died at home on a Wednesday of cadiac disease with which she had been afflicted for some years. She was 65 and a widow. Her daughter Hannah was informant on the death cert. |

| Biography* | James Carroll, ca1846-1907: In 1884, when his son was born, James was a Master-at-Arms in the Royal Navy and the family was living at 22 East Beach. In 1901, James and family were living at East Beach, Queenstown, County Cork. He was employed as a vintner. James' father-in-law was living with them. There were 21 houses on East Beach, 20 of which were occupied, containing 27 families/141 individuals. The 21 houses consisted of public houses (7), butcher shops (2), chemist shop, fancy shop, jewelry shop, provision shop, boat shop, tailor shops (2), delf shop, green grocer shop, barbers shop, private dwelling (1) and harbour office (unoccupied). In the James Carroll house, a public house, there was the one family of 15 individuals including four English sailors and three servants. The house had stone walls, a tiled roof, 15 rooms with 9 windows in front. It was rated 1st class. In addition there were four out-buildings consisting of - stable, shed and store (2). |

| Biography* | Nora Carrol Groff, 1888-1971: In 1917, at the age of 29, Nora married an American sailor in the U.S. Navy named Forrest Norman Groff. An item in the London Daily Chronicle on the 2nd of January 1918 announced the marriage and declared that Nora was the daughter of Lady Ellen Carroll and the late Sir James Carroll. The item was reprinted in a number of American newspapers. In August of 1918, Nora moved to 10 Cleveland Street in Birkenhead, England. That December she filed an Emergency Passport Application with the U.S. Embassy in London so that she could join her husband in the United States at 917 Mount Vernon Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nora was 5ft-5½in tall with grey eyes and dark brown hair. |

His funeral was concelebrated by his brother, John Cardinal Cody, at Saint Engelbert's church on the following Wednesday. He was survived by his wife, and five daughters. |
