John was born to a father born in Scotland and a mother born in Illinois. His father was a carpenter. John was christened on 14 May 1893 at Immaculate Conception. The family owned a mortgaged house at 2031 Knox Avenue in Saint Louis' 24th ward. On 2 October 1917, John was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served overseas from 13 October 1918 to 19 May 1919. In 1930, he was working as a superintendant at a steel mill. He and Anna owned their home at 6453 Lloyd Avenue. They also owned a radio.

Biography* James Germaine Byrnes, 1919-2002:
James was at the very least a 3rd generation Louisianan as both of his parents and all four of his grandparents were born there. He was the second child and the first son. In 1920, the family rented at 1427 Joliet in New Orleans and James father worked for the railroad. James enjoyed a lifelong passion for flying. He was a certified flight instructor. Was named National flight instructor of the year in 1984. Was honored with navigational Fix-Byrns in 1999. Was past president of Greater St Louis Flight Instructors Assoc. Was on the Board of Directors of Missouri Pilots Assoc. Was president of the Gateway Chap of the Missouri Pilots Assoc for six years and a member of and received the president'ss citation of the AOPA.


James died on a Friday at age 83. He was survived by his five children and nine grandchildren. His wife and two brothers predeceased him. James' funeral was held on Monday from St Elizabeth Ann Seton's in St Charles.
