Biography* Gussie Alcott Walsh, 1882-1939:
Born in Missouri, Gussie is a bit of a mystery before her marriage to Michael Walsh. Her birth date recorded here came from her death cert but she may have been born earlier. In 1880, Gussie's parents were farming in Chillicothe township of Livingston County. Her parents, Thomas Alcott and Mary McCue, had seven children, the youngest a seven-year-old girl named Elsie Grace. (Elsie Grace married Seth Hinkley and was the informant on Gussie's death cert.) Have found no other trace of any members of this family between that census and Gussie's death cert. Also, Gussie's death cert lists her father's birthplace as the West Indies and her mother's as Ireland. Gussie herself listed their birthplaces as England and Scotland. The 1880 census lists both of their birthplaces as Ireland. In 1910, Gussie and Michael were living at 3119 North 12th Street in St Louis 2nd ward. In 1920, at 1610 Cass Avenue in the 4th ward.

The widow Gussie Walsh, of 1309a Montgomery Street, St. Louis, died on a Tuesday at age 57. She was working as a bathhouse attendant. Cause of death was bronco-pneumonia. Gussie's physician was Dr. G. H. Wilson, 4362 Marne Avenue. The informant on her death cert was Mrs Elsie Henkley, Stanberry, Missouri. Gussie's funeral was held on Friday from the Henry Leidner Funeral Home chapel, 2223 St Louis.

Biography* Catherine Begley Dolan, 1868-1942:
According to their civil birth records, the first four children of John Begley and Mary O'Brien were born in Crough. The births were recorded in the Milford district of Kanturk union but the place Crough has not been identified. Catherine was christened in Shandrum Church Parish, County Cork. Her christening was recorded twice with different dates but the same name - Kate Begley, the same parents, - John Begley and Mary O'Brien, and the same sponsors, Thos Bowles and Hanora Bowles. Thomas and Hanora Bowles were probably Catherine's uncle and aunt - Hanora her father's sister, and Thomas Hanora's husband.

Kitty immigrated to the United States via Port of New York in 1883 with siblings Michael and John. The three arrived on the 18th of June aboard the SS Helvetia. There were no other Begleys on the ship. She married late in life, in 1913 at age 44, to policeman Peter Dolan. Peter had two children from a previous marriage, John and Helen. Step-daughter Helen Dolan, who married a Wilson, gained a measure of notoriety in later years as the cousin of John Cardinal Cody. In 1929, when her husband Peter died, they were living at 6418 Lloyd Avenue.

Catherine, age 73, died at 1350 Union Blvd. on a Wednesday. She was survived by one step-son, one step-daughter, four sisters and one brother. Her funeral was held on Saturday 23rd of May from St. James Church, Wade & Tamm Avenues. Catherine was a member of the Queen of the Rosary Sodality at Saint James.

Recorded as David Begley in 1887 civil birth record. An infant male named Gabriel is listed with the family on the 1888 passenger list. Deborah, who would have been 1 year, 5 months, and 5 days old, was not listed.

Deborah died on a Wednesday. Her funeral held from the home on Thursday the 8th. She was buried in the Walsh plot in Calvary Cemetery.

Biography* Elizabeth Begley Cody, 1881-1947:
Elizabeth was christened on 25 February 1883 at Shandrum, County Cork. She left Ireland with her parents for Saint Louis, Missouri via Liverpool on the steamship British Prince and arrived at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 12 June 1888.

Elizabeth and James Cody were married by the Rev Jas J McCabe. At the time of her death, they were living at 4918a St Louis.

She died on a Tuesday at Mount St Rose in Lemay of chronic pulm tub and diabetes mellitis. She was survived by her husband, four sons, five daughters, one sister and one brother. Elizabeth's funeral was held on Friday from Blessed Sacrament church. Cullen-Kelly funeral home, 4386 Lindell Blvd., was in charge of arrangements.
